- WOMAN WHO FALSELY ACCUSED FALCONS LB BRIAN BANKS OF RAPE ORDERED TO PAY $2.6M - Brian Banks spent five years in prison after a woman falsely accused him of rape in 2002, and now accuser Wanetta Gibson has been ordered to pay $2.6 million in damages to the Long Beach Unified School District, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reports.
Banks, who was a star football prospect at Long Beach Poly High, was convicted, lost his scholarship offer from USC and was sent to jail. Since the rape was alleged to have occurred on the campus of the high school, Gibson sued the school district, citing an unsafe environment, and was awarded a $1.5 million settlement in 2007.
In February 2011, Gibson sent a friend request to Banks via Facebook. Bank declined the request but did ask Gibson to meet with him, according to the Los Angeles Times. During their meeting, Gibson admitted to lying about the alleged rape. The conversation that was recorded by a private investigator which led to Banks’ exoneration in May 2012.
On the tape, Gibson said that she was reluctant to tell prosecutor’s the truth because she didn’t want to lose the $1.5 million that she had been awarded in the civil suit against the school district.
Gibson, who only received $750,000 of the $1.5 million settlement, will now have to pay the school district $2.6 million. The total includes paying back the $750,000 she received, plus attorney’s fees, interest and $1 million in punitive damages.

Banks, on the other hand, continues to be one of the most inspirational stories in the NFL. I remember hearing about this on ESPN a while ago. The audacity of trying to friend request someone you put in jail…I hope they throw her ass in jail too. Im happy Banks is in the league but she ruined his life for 5 years for what?
This is what I fear will happen to my brother. It scares me for him and it’s a shame that women do this.

Every guy I talk to I believe every word that come out of their mouth yes it is stupid and even though I get hurt every time I just always like to believe that everyone really is sweet and loving and care and honest. I jump into everything with my heart first and yes that is probably the reason I always get hurt but if I can be honest with you why can’t you be honest with me. And yes I know I’m too young to find who I will be with for the rest of my life but is it too hard to ask for a real relationship not saying I need one or anything but to be truly loved by someone who is a sucker for cuddling kissing and watching movies like I am. Is that to much to ask for.
